Fun with Sparklers - Part 2

by Henrik (31/01/10) Email

Here is the second post with photos from the evening when we played with sparklers [länk]. In this post I'm showing off the photos in which we were also using the flash. The photos were created by using the Bulb mode and setting the flash to fire right before the shutter closes. To explain more thoroughly, my girlfriend presses the trigger and the shutter opens and I start to move around the sparkler. When I'm satisfied with the "drawing", I positioned myself in the pose I want to have on the picture and tell my girlfriend to released the trigger. As soon as the trigger is released, the flash goes off and the shutter closes. Effectively combining a long exposure picture with a quick flash-lit picture.

Fun with Sparklers - Part 1

by Henrik (29/01/10) Email

Me, my girlfriend and a friend went out an evening to a dark small tunnel and played around with our cameras and a few sparklers. Using the sparklers combined with the Bulb mode on my camera, we could draw burning lines in the air. If you are unfamiliar with Bulb mode, I can tell you it's a function that allows you to keep the shutter open for as long you press the trigger. Meaning that we could stop the exposure as soon we were done drawing with the sparklers. The pictures from the evening will be posted in two separate posts. Because on some photos I set the flash to trigger right before the shutter closed and I want to have those photos in a post of their own.

On the photos below, we alternated who held the sparklers and who stood behind the camera. So in some pictures it's me drawing the lines and on others it's my girlfriend.

Nina to the rescue

by Henrik (28/01/10) Email

This is my latest painting which I started to paint early last autumn and finished during my winter vacation. It was made for a friend who asked me for a painting as her birthday gift. Her birthday was in August, so she had to patiently wait almost 5 months for her present before receiving it. When she asked me for the painting I didn't immediately have an idea what to paint. But after some thinking and many sketches, I decided to paint my friend riding on a dragon with her birds flying above her.

Sand crocodiles

by Henrik (27/01/10) Email

I starting to really miss the summer and its warmth, so I'm posting this summer picture. It's two crocodiles made out of sand that I found on the local beach.

I took the picture on the same evening as another summer photo.

Snow covered beach

by Henrik (21/01/10) Email

I spent a Saturday afternoon walking along the beach at Grötvik. It was during a beautiful day and the weather made it easy for me to take several nice photographs. These photos are probably going to be rare, because it's not every year in Halmstad that the beach is covered with snow during a sunny day. If it wasn't for the unusually cold winter this year, the snow would have melt away as soon as the sun came out.

Plasma Ball

by Henrik (20/01/10) Email

Old photos that I shoot with my first digital camera and my mothers tripod. If you don't recognize what's on the pictures, I can tell you that it's a so called Plasma Ball that I used to own. I now longer own it, because it recently got destroyed when somebody broke into my basement storage. Thankfully nothing was stolen, so I guess I should be happy I only got a broken toy to deal with.

More photos on light bulbs.

by Henrik (19/01/10) Email

Last post (at least for a while) on light bulbs. This time on two old style lamps and a newer compact fluorescent light bulb.

Light bulb

I don't think I properly explained why I been photographing light bulbs lately. It is simply because I want to do my part in documenting the old style light bulbs. The old incandescent light bulb has been in common use for over a hundred years and now thanks to EU they're being phased out (The EU has prohibited the manufacturing and importation of the light bulbs). So the next generation of citizens in EU will probably not use them at all and will only have photos like these to show them what they looked like.

Sky lanterns (in memory of Gullberg)

by Henrik (18/01/10) Email

To commemorate the memory of my departed friend Gullberg, me and a few friends spent the evening after Christmas day sending up lantern into the sky. The act of sending up sky lanterns is always a beautiful event, but hard to photograph because of the low light conditions. Below is my three favorite photos from the event. All photos from the event can be found here (Note that the photos below are all cut)

This is the resulting "constellation" of sky lanterns. We sent up a lot of them, but because of strong winds and cloudy sky most of them vanished from view quite quickly.

For 37 days straight.

by Henrik (17/01/10) Email

When I started this blog my unannounced goal was to post four times a month. I did not expect that I one day would have been able to update my blog for 37 days straight. I don't know for how long I will be able to update this often, so don't get used to it. I would imagine that things will come in the way and slow things down. The fact that I failed at achieving my unannounced goal three times, shows that I don't always have the energy, time or interest needed.

Tunnel graffiti

Tunnel graffiti

This is what I assume to be a random piece of graffiti without any real meaning. I photographed it because its simple and abstract design appeals to me on some level.

Blue tit

by Henrik (15/01/10) Email

When I was out trying to photograph birds one day, I managed to snap a few pictures on this Blue tit. By luck it decided to land in a bush right next to me and I would have totally missed it if it hadn't started to sing. It was almost like it wanted to be photographed. I say almost, because their was a lot of branches between me and the bird. I really hate how the branches destroys what could have been great photos on this Blue Tit. I don't think these are photos to show off, but I still think it would be nice to show how a Blue tit looks like at close up.

Fern

Fern

An old picture that I think I took with my first digital camera. It was taken in my parents garden and is of a Fern , shoot from above looking down to its base. The flash illuminated the leaves and keep the ground in the dark, creating a spaced out photograph.

Pre Tatooine Mission Briefing (a.k.a. "These are the Droids we're looking for")

by Henrik (11/01/10) Email

Another diorama that took more time to setup than it looks. I had a hard time figuring out how to light the scene and from what angle I would take the picture. But I eventually got a picture I was satisfied with.

Pre Tatooine Mission Briefing (a.k.a.

This is the last of the current batch of Star Wars Lego dioramas. I have one more idea left in my head, but I probably won't take the time to set it up for a while.
