Summer Flowers 2008: Review

by Henrik (25 October 2008) Email

Annual Asters
Bloomed late, but looked good.

Jasmine Tobacco
Grew a lot and I liked the flower. I think I will be planting them in the balcony box next spring.

Shoo-fly flowers
Did not grow as much as expected. Maybe I should have tried giving them fertiliser early on. The few flowers they did produce was pretty through.

Strawflower
A Pretty flower, but couldn’t stand up straight by themselves. I don’t think it looks nice when the flowers are falling over.

Monkey flower
Looked very nice, and I think I’ll someday plant more of those.

Moonflowers
Never bloomed, and I’m a little disappointed about that. I still have a few seeds left, so I’ll probably plant more next spring. But If it wasn’t for that I wouldn’t try planting them again.

Finally! The Annual Asters are blooming.

It has taken them half the summer, but they have finally bloomed for me. Now I just have to wait for the Moonflowers to do the same.

The Shoo-flies are blooming for real now.

The unknown flowers that I found amongst the Shoo-flies are still in the balcony box. The strange thing is that they grow up in the same line that I planted the shoo-flies seeds. So I wonder if they came from the same package as the shoo-flies seeds.

The Monkey flower and the Shoo-flies has bloomed! Update: On closer inspection there seems like there is a unknown plant amongst the Shoo-flies. So the photo below is not a Shoo-fly flower.

Balcony report

Everything is growing and doing good. I’m hoping that I will have lots of blooming flowers within a month or so. I’m completely done with replanting all the little plants.

Rhubarb and Shoo-flies
The rhubarb and Shoo-flies are growing like crazy.

Summer flower 2008 report

by Henrik (21 May 2008) Email

Since last update, I have replanted all sprouts to small pelt pots and moved them outside. I did not replant all sprouts, a few weak ones were thrown away.

My balcony
You can also see that my birthday gifts have been placed in new pots.

Sprouts! I have been waiting anxiously for two week to see the seeds sprout.

Sprouts report

by Henrik (1 May 2008) Email

Still growing strong and more of them have been replanted to their own peat piece.

Cultivation

The sprouts that have been inside the cultivation box seems to be weaker. I needed to add support for the Strawflowers. They couldn’t stand up right.

Cultivation

The sprouts that were moved out of the cultivation box and not moved to their own pelt piece, seems to be doing great. And two of three Moonflower seeds have sprouted.

Cultivation

The second time I moved sprouts to their own peat pieces, I placed them out side the cultivation box. They seems to be doing alright, except for the four that died. I keep forgetting to watering my sprouts.

Sprouts

In less then a week all my seeds have sprouted.

Sprouts

As you can see I planted more than one seed in one pieces of peat. This is because I know that not all seeds will grow and not all sprouts will grow up to become big plants. Most of them will, but I rather have to many than to little.

Summer flowers 2008

by Henrik (10 April 2008) Email

This Monday I was busy planting seeds. They are hopefully going to be the flowers I keep on my balcony this summer. In the box I planted: Monkey flower (Mimulus_guttatus), Annual Asters (Callistephus_chinensis), Jasmine Tobacco (Nicotiana alata) and Strawflower (Rhodanthe chlorocephala)
