Sunflower
by Henrik (10/08/11)
A very late blog post as the sunflower bloomed weeks ago. Haven't had the time/energy to update the blog until now.

A little smaller and paler than what I had hopped for. I guess I picked the wrong kind of sunflower when selected which seed bag to pick.
Under the balcony report.

It looks like last years flowers managed to spread a few seeds. A few Jasmine tobacco plants and what looks like a sunflower are growing nicely right under my balcony.

Edit: Before this post got published, the flowers got weeded out. It's a little sad that I won't get to see the Sunflower bloom.
Balcony report

Thing are going well on the balcony. A few of the plants aren't growing well, but I still have a lot of plants that are, so no worries there. The Bluehead gilia has started to bloom and I'm going to take close-ups on them as soon as the light conditions are right.

Summer project 2011 / Balcony report
by Henrik (21/05/11)
Things have been going well so far. All flowers are in their final locations now. Out of the eight sunflowers I cultivated I have given away five. So only three are left on my balcony.

The two boxes on the floor contains Chrysanthemum greens and Bluehead gilia mixed together. The tree pots up against the wall contains the three sunflowers. The hanging box to the right contains the Buck Bay vygie. The big pot contains the Clematis I received for my birthday last year. I'm happy it survived the winter.

We choose to "plant" some fake grass in the balcony box this year. Our dog Simpson likes to stand there and watch, so we didn't want to place anything there that would block his view.

The Rhubarb has survived yet another winter. This winter I for the first time let it stand out on the balcony. Looks like I made a good decision. It looks better than ever.

Things has been growing this week. Both indoors and outdoors. But a lot more indoors. The Sunflowers kicked it off strong as usual while the other three has just sprouted.

The Sunflowers
Summer Project 2011
by Henrik (05/04/11)
My Summer project 2011 has kicked off. This year I'm scaling it down a bit and only cultivating 4 different flowers. They are Sunflowers (yellow instead of red this time), Buck Bay vygie, Chrysanthemum greens and Bluehead gilia.

As you can see I have chosen to cultivate both indoors and outdoors this year. Indoors I'm cultivating the Sunflowers and the Buck Bay vygie. Outdoors I keep the Chrysanthemum greens and Bluehead gilia. Cultivating the flowers outdoors is a bit of an experiment I'm doing. I'm not sure if it is too early or not for outdoors cultivation. Hopefully they will grow.
Red Sun
by Henrik (05/09/10)
The red sunflowers called Red Sun were amongst the flower I really wanted to see bloom this year. I have cultivated a few of them before. I did it during my first year in the apartment. I think the flowers looks awesome. They almost looks like they have been painted. The reason I didn't cultivated them the other years, is because they grow so tall. I felt they wouldn't have a place to look good on. But this year I knew they would look good behind all the other flowers.

Thing are going good. Well, mistakes have been made, but I'm still satisfied with the results. The mistakes are putting out the Moonflowers to early and using loose, low-nutrition soil to cultivate the plants in. I thought the loose soil would let the plants grow big roots, but the soil didn't supply some of the plants with the right amounts of nutrition to grow big.

On this picture you can see almost all of the plants. It is only Sensitive plants that hasn't been moved out.
Summer project 2010 update
by Henrik (15/05/10)
A lot of stuff has happen since the last update. I have replanted many flowers and have started to cultivate many more new flowers.

A few French marigold have been placed in their final locations. Here is a picture on two of them.
"Red Sun" Sunflower (Helianthus annuus)
by Henrik (8 August 2007)
This year I have grown red sunflowers called Red Sun. I only had four plants long enough to develop flowers and currently three of them as started to wither away. Last weekend I took a couple of pictures on the one that is still standing strong.
